Jeff Atwood, for Coding Horror:

Reading self-help advice from other people, however well-intentioned, is no substitute for getting your own damn work done. The sooner you come to terms with this, the better off you’ll be.

The key to self-help is helping yourself. It is somewhat like writing: if you are doing anything but actually writing, you are not writing. Yes, there is helpful material to be had on the topic, but there is a distinct line between research and distraction. It is incredibly easy to cross that line without intention or awareness.

I am starting to think that success has more to do with an ability to focus than with any other trait.
